I’d say we could all use a little R&R these days, right? Justin and I found the perfect escape this past week while visiting The Omni Homestead Resort, nestled in the northwest region of Virginia in Hot Springs. It was just a short drive from Knoxville and such an amazing, much-needed getaway. The Omni always has such a special way of making you feel at-home with their level of care and exceptional customer service. Everything was also very clean and perfectly set-up for social distancing, which made us feel so safe and welcomed. We had so much fun that we’re already planning our next trip back! After visiting, I can see why Virginia has been acclaimed for its outdoor beauty and history and wanted to share that with you today. THINGS TO DO AT THE OMNI HOMESTEAD RESORT
One of my favorite things about The Homestead is that it has something exciting to offer everyone. No matter the type of vacation you’re looking for — you’re bound to have fun and find everything you need conveniently located on or near the resort! From amazing food, relaxing at the spa and enjoying some shopping, riding horses, to getting outdoors to hike or play a round of golf. There are so many things to enjoy here, but below are some ideas to get you started and what we did during our visit!
HIKING + ENJOYING THE OUTDOORS
While researching The Homestead, we read multiple times that if there is only one thing you should not miss while visiting, it’s hiking the Cascades Gorge. And they were so right! Our hike was led by Jeff, who guided us through a series of beautiful waterfalls along the Allegheny Mountain gorge trail. He did such a great job sharing information about all the flora and fauna in this semi-tropical environment as well as the medicinal and edible properties of many of the local plants. It was so interesting! Coming from Tennessee (where the Great Smoky Mountains are practically in our backyard), Justin and I have gone on our fair share of hikes, but we both agreed that this was one of the prettiest hikes we have ever been on! This is a great morning activity and a MUST-DO while visiting the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA!
GOLF
Calling all golfers: The Omni Homestead is a golfer’s dream. My husband is an AVID golfer! He actually played The Cascades at The Homestead back in college, where his team won the National Championship! Although I don’t golf, I enjoy riding in the cart and it was so much fun listening to him reminisce about each hole and watch him have so much fun playing this course again. Plus, fall is the prettiest time to golf — the leaves have started to change so the views were stunning! We also saw a little baby bear!! Which was super cool!
SKEET SHOOTING
Skeet shooting has always been on my bucket list and I’m so excited that I can finally cross it off! The Omni Homestead Resort offers two sporting clays courses, four skeet fields, trap, and five-stand courses. And no matter what your experience level is, they’ve got you covered. We had a great instructor, Doug, who really helped me out and talked me through my first-time skeet shooting! Although I wasn’t very good, it was a fun experience! And my husband loved it! However, if firearms aren’t for you, try bow and arrow shooting at the archery range, or check out their world-class falconry facility.
RELAXING AT THE SPA
After a long month of packing up our house and a few stressful days of moving, you bet I treated myself to a manicure at the spa while visiting The Omni Homestead Resort! Services are completed using the mineral-enriched water from the surrounding Hot Springs area. Following a salt stone therapy massage, guests can relax in natural-body-temperature, mineral-rich water in the Octagon pool, which dates back to the 19th century, all while taking in the resort’s breathtaking views. For an indoor luxury experience, you can visit the Aqua Thermal Suite, a collection of European-style healing aquatic environments which combines “heat and cool therapy” for relaxation.
