Cool It Down
This is a tip I picked up from one of my hair-stylist friends a long time ago, and to this day, it is still the most effective trick for making my curls stand the test of time! After bringing your curling iron out of the curl, be sure to let it cool down as you’re holding it instead of letting it go immediately. How the curl cools has so much to do with how long it lasts! You can also pin your curls instead of holding them if you are going for a more defined look. Just be sure to let the curl cool down completely before brushing it out, as breaking the curl while it is still hot will make it lose its form quicker.

Use the Right Products
Sometimes your curls need a little help, so give them a boost by using the right products. First and foremost, you should be using a heat protectant before styling. I love this one here (plus it has so many other great benefits!) and also this one here. You can also apply hairspray or a texturizing spray like this one here before, during and after curling your hair. When I’m faced with humid weather or need to reinforce my curls for the day ahead, I lightly mist this hairspray here and on each section of my hair. I let it dry before I curl my hair, and then spray it all-over afterwards for extra hold.

Use the Right Tools
If you are convinced your hair just doesn’t hold curl… Think again. It could be that you just aren’t using the right tools. Investing in a quality curling iron like this one here and selecting the right barrel size may just be what your curls have been missing all along. Bigger isn’t always better when it comes to the barrel size! I usually stick with a 1″ to 1.5″ size barrel, which can give you both those loose, beachy curls or tight, defined curls.
